Orthotic Shoe or Insert?

  • Functional – For individuals experiencing pain due to abnormal motion, shin splints or tendinitis orthotics are recommended. Normally it is composed of a semi rigid material like plastic or graphite.
  • Accommodative – This type of orthotic is composed of soft cushioning material meant to provide additional soft tissue supplementation. Individuals who suffer from calluses causing pain on the bottom of their foot or diabetic foot ulcers would find comfort in this orthotic option.

When it comes to Inserts they are meant to provide relief for minor foot ailments. Prefabricated devices match no one’s foot perfectly and, furthermore, there is often a difference from the left foot to right foot. That’s because no two feet are identical. Prefabricated devices are the same for all general size categories. That is why these devices are often soft and flexible; unfortunately they do not provide adequate support to control the mechanics of the foot in order to alleviate the pain and discomfort.
